House prices in the UK have fallen by a record 12.4% in the past year (September 2007-08), according to the Nationwide Building Society.

This figure is due to the worldwide economic situation which is steady worsening along with the tightening up of bank lending. We are seeing an increase in property for sale and a firm decrease in available purchasers with first time buyers all but come to a grinding halt. We are seeing a steady fall in houseprices nationally with places in Ireland now being a third less than they were a year ago.

Varied websites monitor this downturn curve including HousePriceCrash and PropertySnake. When will the right time to be to buy again?

There is alot of volatility in the markets at the moment. Shares affected alot are banks and housebuilders. This is obviously a reflection on the credit crunch and the housing market. America’s spending has hit a 15 year low. The Dollar has also seen it’s biggest weekly drop in a month against the Euro. The British Pound has also reached a record low against the Euro. House prices in America keep falling with another 10% drop last month. The UK house prices have fallen again for the sixth month in a row. Sales in America and Europe are falling. Consumer confidence around the world is very low. With the true level of inflation much higher than official figures, unemployment figures increasing many people in the UK are now saying it’s not a case of if but when the recession hits.

With some garages being sold for ridiculous amounts of money especially in prime areas of London. How desirable is a garage with your property? The majority of people who own a garage don’t even use it for their car, it is simply a storage area. On some new build estates the size of the garage wouldn’t even be big enough for your average car to fit in anyway. Lots of people nowadays convert their garage into an extra living area. Other options people use them for are workshops, games/music rooms or gyms. What’s the strangest thing you’ve heard that a garage has been used for?
